These mittens mean a lot to me - they were the first knitting pattern that I ever invented for myself. i had followed pattern for a hat in the shape of a beehive in a popular knitting book, but i wanted a pair of mittens to compliment it, so thought I'd try and make some in the shape of the inside of a beehive - the honeycomb!

The back of the hand features a honeycomb pattern and the palm is striped, like a bee! There is a little faux 'tab' closure on the wrist that features a little bumblebee shaped button which matches those I sewed to my beehive hat.

It was the buttons (which I had bought a set of to use on a hat) which really inspired the mittens ^_^

Aah, thank you! I love mittens too - they're ace, aren't they? Keep your hands all snuggly without making you feel like your fingers are all restrained, each in an uncomfortable sling. Fingers each able to wiggle about happy and independent inside a cosy little sleeping bag for the hand....
